League Championship Tournaments

Tournaments will be held at the Mite A, Squirt B, Squirt A, Squirt AA, Peewee A, and Bantam A divisions.

SYTHL League Championship Tournaments

 

Tournaments will be held at the Mite A, Squirt B, Squirt A, Squirt AA,  Peewee A, and Bantam A divisions.

 

All tournaments will follow established SYTHL Guidelines for period and penalty length.

 

Participating Teams

The following divisions will have 4 teams participating:

            Mite A – Feb 27-28 @ Pelham, AL

            Squirt B – Feb 27-28 @ Nashville Centennial Sportsplex

            Squirt A – Feb 27-28 @ A Game Sportsplex, Franklin, TN

            Squirt AA – Feb 27-28 @ Marietta Ice Center

           

The following divisions will have 6 teams participating:

            Peewee A – Feb 27-28 @ Huntsville, AL

            Bantam A – Feb 27-28 @ Knoxville, TN

 

Team Requirements:

  • All tournament fees need to be paid by league check to the host rink, personal checks will not be accepted (per SYTHL bylaws) - tournament fees are pending, they will be posted as soon as they have been finalized
  • Team contact information should be submitted to Sandi Chadwick at sandi.chadwick@gmail.com This will be forwarded to each host organization for tournament communication
  • This is considered a league weekend, therefore if a team qualifies for the tournament, that team is expected to attend.  Failure to attend/participate in the year-end tournament can result in a fine of $1,000 plus the cost of the entry fee of the tournament for the hosting organization.  If these are not paid the team/organization will not be in good standing and will not be allowed to declare teams in SYTHL or having voting priviledges next season until monies are paid.
     

Tournament Format

 

For leagues with a single division of 7 or fewer teams, the format will be as follows:

 

The top 4 teams in the division will qualify for the tournament.

The teams will be seeded 1-4 based upon final league standings.

In the event of a tie in league standings, the following tiebreaker format shall be used to determine seeding:

 

1.      Head to head

2.      Goal differential (maximum differential of 5 goals per game)

3.      Goal quotient

4.      Fewest goals allowed

5.      Coin flip

Requires a total of 8 sheets of ice and referees for 8 games.

For leagues with a total of 8 or more teams in one or two divisions, the format will be as follows:

 

The top 6 teams in the Peewee division will qualify for the tournament.  For the Bantam division, the top 3 teams in the East and the top 3 team in the West will qualify.

The teams will be seeded 1-6 (or 1-3 in each division if there are two divisions) based upon final league standings.

In the event of a tie in league standings, the following tiebreaker format shall be used to determine seeding:

 

1.      Head to head

2.      Goal differential (maximum differential of 5 goals per game)

3.      Goal quotient (goals scored divided by goals allowed)

4.      Fewest goals allowed

5.      Coin flip

Points will be awarded as follows:

Game Win = 2 pts.

Game Tie = 1 pt.

Game Loss = 0 pts.

Period Win = 1 pt.

Maximum points/game = 5

 

Requires a total of 12 sheets of ice and referees for 12 games.

 

The tiebreaker format for the finals will be the same as the tiebreaker format used to determine the original tournament seeding.

 

The higher seeded teams in each game will be the home team and will wear colored jerseys and socks.

The lower seeded teams in each game will be the visiting team and will wear white jerseys and socks.

 

Teams will play no more than 2 games per day.

 

Only the Championship games will be played to a final conclusion.  All other games may end in a tie.
